Mind Full or Mindful?

"I can't meditate, my mind is too busy..." If this sounds familiar, you are not alone! Although we are very conscious of the wonderful benefits of meditation, many of us shy away from it. Here are a few tips that will hopefully help you develop a meditation practice of your own.
  • Carve out a realistic time in your schedule that is reserved for your meditation practice and stick to it. Start small and set a timer. Five minutes, ten minutes, and eventually 20 minutes or more if you wish!
  • Get comfortable! For your mind to settle, it is imperative that your physical body be as comfortable as possible. Choose a position that is comfortable and sustainable for your own body type.
  • Let go of the idea that you need to meditate every day, in stillness, for a minimum of 20 minutes. Smaller increments of time throughout the day can also be extremely beneficial.
  • If you find yourself getting frustrated because your monkey brain won't settle, walk away! After all, a meditation practice is meant to leave you feeling refreshed and focused. Some days will be better than others.
  • PRACTICE is the key! The regularity of your meditation practice is the key to eventually tame that monkey brain. Like anything else, the more you meditate, the better you become at it!
  • Meditating with others can also be beneficial and special! Consider joining a class or a group (like our Monthly Mindfulness Circle) to spark up your practice!
