Stepping back to move forward
Far from being idled for three months, I worked as an inn keeper everyday of the summer. My work schedule was short but physically intense. By the end of the day, exhausted, I would walk to my favourite spot by the river, and sit for hours, observing the horizon for any sign of ship activity. Watching small dots on the horizon slowly morphing into huge floating ships is fascinating to me! Everyday, I was grateful for the opportunity to spend the summer in such a wonderful environment. A friend of mine mentioned that I was brave to take such a step. Leaving everything behind (including a very supportive husband!) for a new experience, for a temporary change. Funny enough, I don't see myself as brave. Actually, I felt a bit guilty when I initially announced that I would be gone all summer. That feeling was eventually replaced by excitement for a new experience, for a change in pace. Stepping back from my life in Toronto allowed me to take a breath, and to contemplate what my next steps could be professionally and personally. I met generous and kind people, and truly enjoyed the small village life. I came back with so much gratitude, with new projects in mind, and with a renewed enthusiasm for our lives here in Toronto, including my quest to help people feel better thru yoga and the practice of mindfulness.
